For immediate release. Mississauga, Ontario.
Shelland House of Films is extending an invitation to attend a Media Event to announce the World Premiere of its first documentary called W’AT ABOWT US.
The Media Event will be held at the Fox Theatre, 2236 Queen Street East, in the Beeches area of Toronto, on Thursday, March 7th, from 10:30AM to 12:30PM.
W’AT ABOWT US captures the heartfelt stories of eight women representing the five major cultural backgrounds. These stories have stemmed from the #metoomovement. The documentary draws attention to the diverse extent of this issue, because in large measure, ever since the movement went viral, victims have been primarily white women in the arts & entertainment industry, the media profession, and the political arena. This has been the case in Canada as in most of the western world. Yet while this is happening, there are increases in demand on Canada’s sexual violence support services, which cut through all cultures and lifestyles. In some parts of Canada there are limited or no services at all. The lack of support leaves survivors with few options of how to deal with the trauma. There is also an increased demand for women’s shelters, for victims of not only sexual but also physical and emotional harassment and abuse.
This film not only features women from all cultural backgrounds who share their truth, but who have had experiences that have taken place in diverse settings; in the home, in other private residences, at work, in public buildings, or out in the community; and which involved emotional, physical, and sexual harassment and abuse. W’AT ABOWT US extends the credibility of this issue in ways that mainstream media has not been able to.
The Media Event will afford the press an opportunity to meet entrepreneurs who have aligned themselves in support of this project. The members of the cast will be introduced as the promotional trailer is being shown. They will then be available for a Q & A with the press. The Media Event will conclude with the unveiling of the movie trailer.
For those that may want to record part of the proceedings, or obtain a short interview, a separate wifi will be made available. The press will be given the password to access the network. It works best in the theatre when being used on mobile phones, laptops, etc.
